PRE 2024 BLOGS
I started a blog back in late 2014, soon after leaving my diplomatic career and moving to the Barossa.
When I started, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to write about, so you’ll find blogs about career change, moving to the Barossa and the start of my writing journey.
Unfortunately, my blog writing took a back seat when I started my copywriting business in early 2019.
But I kept this website because I wanted to keep the record of my career change, our move to the Barossa and my early writing experiments.
Hanoi: A Reading List
As I have been working on my book set in Hanoi, I have been trawling my bookshelves for some of my favourite books about (or set in) Hanoi, Vietnam
New habits – It’s all about consistency
It’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through January, and only a couple of weeks away from the boys going back to school. While Simon has been working long hours, I’ve fortunately been able to work flexibly and the boys and I have been taking things very...

If you’re sitting on the fence about Nanowrimo, just do it. This post is about how doing Nanowrimo made me a writer.
Finding my writing mojo with a road trip and a pen
Despite my good intentions at the start of the year, I haven't had nearly enough time to write and when I have sat down, I've struggled with writer's block. I've only added 5000 words to the 50,000 I wrote during Nanowrimo and for once, the strategy to just write and...
New year, new approach
As I start the new year, I’m aiming for 30 minutes of writing and 30 minutes of exercise a day.
5 lessons from my Nanowrimo win
After 3 attempts, I finally won Nanowrimo this year, writing 50,000 words of a romantic, historical novel based in the Barossa. More importanly, I learned some great lessons about making time to write, finding a writing tribe and using Scrivener
On running and writing
In the last couple of months, while I’ve been very quiet on this blog, I have actually been doing a lot of writing – and next month, I’m about to do a lot more. 50,000 words more in fact. After thinking about it for a long time, in September I finally signed up for...
